Well, my original "staycation vibes" post had to be tucked safely back into the vault today. As usual, life had a few unexpected twists in store that my calendar definitely didn't see coming!
My youngest had to be picked up from school early with a sudden earache, and by late afternoon, my oldest came home with a fever. Enter: Momma Lora to the rescue! Thank You, God, for my Momma! I never want to take her for granted; she is a rare gem and my constant hero. I truly couldn't do half of what I do without her wisdom, guidance, and steady support when I need it most.
When I haven't been playing nurse these past couple of days, I've been hard at work making teacher plans for my upcoming preschool class. I’ve created a ton of fun decor for my classroom and have been slipping in to clean, organize, and prepare little by little before our big prep day. With Open House right around the corner, I want to make sure my room is in tip-top shape to welcome my incoming students!
Still, with my birthday right around the corner, I’ll be completely honest: I've caught myself picking myself apart. It's so easy to fall into the trap of comparing where I am to where I thought I'd be, or feeling like I haven't done or achieved "enough" by this age. I know I'm not giving myself enough credit for what I have accomplished. While I definitely have room to grow, I am actively trying to shake off that discouraging spirit so I can enter chapter 38 with a renewed heart and fresh motivation.
The glimmers have felt a little harder to recognize this week simply because I’ve been so stuck in my own head... but they are still there! Sometimes I just have to intentionally tear my attention away from my pessimistic thoughts to actually see them.
I have so enjoyed these weeks of summer, but soon I'll be heading back to school right alongside the kids. I had envisioned one last "vacation mode" day: dropping everyone off, coming home to treat myself to some quiet sunshine, a great fantasy book, my summer playlist on shuffle, and plenty of cold Olipops to celebrate one final hurrah before work begins again. I certainly didn't factor in sick kids so early in the school year! But I'm holding onto hope that this little celebration isn't gone, just postponed for a bit.
If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that if I am blessed enough to wake up tomorrow morning, there is still time for me. Time is precious, and I don't want to waste a single moment of it doubting myself or missing the beauty right in front of me.
