Dream Life vs. Reality | Blogust 2025

Dream vs. Reality KW Blogust 2025

If you're anything like me, you've probably designed your perfect day a hundred times in your mind. The serene mornings, productive afternoons, relaxed evenings—it's beautiful, right? Today I'm sharing a peek at my meticulously planned dream routine and then immediately contrasting it with the gloriously unpredictable reality of my day-to-day life. Come laugh at (or commiserate!) with me.

Because I've been a stay-at-home mom for the past 13 years, my current dream daily routine reflects that status. Once I get back into the groove of working again, I'm sure I'll be dreaming up an update. ;)

5:00 a.m. - Wake up to brewed coffee. I start my day by meditating on God's Word and praying.
5:45 a.m. - I get ready to workout, I walk on the treadmill to an uplifting playlist or podcast, or strength train with Sydney.
6:15 a.m. - I prepare the kids' breakfast and wake them up. I get the backpacks ready to go and assist with hair and brushing teeth.
7:15 a.m. - Head out for school drop-off.
7:40 a.m. - Kids have been deposited off at school and I head back home to enjoy some peace and quiet and another cup of coffee!
8:00 a.m. - I voice message my sister to update her on life.
8:20 a.m. - I complete a few Spanish lessons on Duolingo.
8:45 a.m. - I do a few house admin tasks, like tidying rooms, starting laundry, and making beds.
9:00 a.m. - I put on my favorite playlist and do some blog planning and writing!
10:00 a.m. - I get out of the house to find some inspiration, visit some shops, or pamper myself. I don't have to rush through or get home quickly.
12:00 p.m. - I return home for lunch and watch something funny while I eat.
12:45 p.m. - I head out for a stroll to help manage my blood sugar. Again, I don't have to rush and can go at my own pace because I'm on my own and time is my friend at the moment!
2:00 p.m. - I come back from my walk and spend my last hour and a half of quiet soaking it in before picking up the kids from school.
3:30 p.m. - I pick up the kids and they're happy and tell me all about their day. They put their things away when they get home and even clean up after themselves after their afternoon snack.
4:30 p.m. - I prep tomorrow's lunches and start dinner that everyone eats and no one complains about! Everyone clears their place at the table and pitches in cleaning the kitchen.
6:00 p.m. - I finish up the laundry and sit down to enjoy some family time.
8:15 p.m. - The kids get ready for bed without a fight!
8:30 p.m. - The kids are in the bed and Daniel and I get to watch our BBC show while we wind down for the night.
9:30 p.m. - I take a long, hot bath and get ready for bed.
10:00 p.m. - I'm in bed and ready for a full 7 hours of sleep!
(Seriously, it doesn't take much to make me happy, obviously!)

And, on the other side of the coin, here is an actual representation of how my days usually go.

6:00 a.m. - My alarm goes off and I snooze once. I get up at 6:09 and try to make my hair look decent. I get breakfast ready and wake the children up multiple times before they finally relent and come to the table to eat. They hate what I fixed them. I have to fix something else.
6:35 a.m. - I help get Elora ready and she hates how everything fits and feels. I spend the next 20 minutes trying to calm her down because clothing is not optional at school.
7:15 a.m. - If I'm one thing, it's going to be punctual. We always leave on time because my anxiety goes through the roof at even the slightest thought of me being late. My kids hate this about me, I'm sure.
7:30 a.m. - I drop the kids off and make the commute back home praying that people are abiding the laws while they drive and my road rage doesn't kick in.
7:45 a.m. - I make it back home and I am paralyzed by the silence. I start doing things like making beds and picking up dirty socks off the floor. I voice message my sister and chew her ear off for nearly half an hour.
8:30 a.m. - I try to be productive so I make a list of all of the things I want to get accomplished.
8:40 a.m. - I doom scroll on my phone and lose track of time.
9:39 a.m. - I decide I need to be productive right this minute and spent an hour on Duolingo.
10:39 a.m. - I treat myself to more doom scrolling for completing my Spanish lessons.
11:28 a.m. - I'm hungry so I eat lunch.
12:00 p.m. - I can't take the silence so I turn on Kath & Kim so I don't feel all alone with my thoughts
12:01 p.m. - Kath & Kim is on but I still sit and doom scroll.
1:20 p.m. - I feel awful for not being more productive. I get on the treadmill and listen to music while I have a brisk walk.
2:10 p.m. - I'm sweaty and ready for another good sit down and, you guessed it, more doom scrolling.
3:00 p.m. - I panic about not being productive enough. I do absolutely every last little thing in the span of 30 minutes before leaving to pick up the kids from school.
4:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - I'm going through backpacks, packing lunches for tomorrow, chatting about school days, starting dinner, eating dinner, coaxing my kids to try a vegetable, cleaning up vegetables off of the floor, breaking up a fight or two, washing dishes, folding laundry, putting snacks in backpacks, reminding older kids that showering is not optional, reminding all 3 kids that bedtime is happening and at the same time it has happened since they have emerged from my womb.
8:31 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. - I tell the kids to remain in the bed and remind them that their brains cannot function when they're too tired. I am speaking from way too much experience.
9:50 p.m. - I force myself to take a quick shower before doom scrolling myself into oblivion only to realize that it's 12:43 a.m. and I will only get five hours of sleep before everything starts all over again.

And that's what it's really like for me, so I hope you enjoy the grass on your side more now that you know the truth! As for me, I'm going to keep dreaming about the first routine and come up with alternative activities to replace my doom scrolling! Happy Blogust, Reader!
