Even though July is usually all about sunshine and summer heat, this year I kicked off a new (favorite) annual tradition: Christmas in July! There is something so magical about taking a quick, festive pause in the middle of summer to celebrate a little holiday cheer. Last week, my mom, my sister, and I set aside an entire day dedicated to sweet family time, cozy holiday vibes, and getting a head start on our holiday crafting!
We kicked off our morning with a trip to Hobby Lobby to gather all our supplies. Browsing the aisles for festive textures, pastel ribbons, and shiny details immediately put us in the holiday spirit! Once we got home, we put on a playlist of vintage Christmas tunes, laid out a plate of gingerbread cookies, and spent the entire morning and afternoon crafting at the table.
Our main project this year? Handmade felt hot cocoa mug ornaments!
We hand-stitched sweet little felt mugs, topped them with fluffy white "whipped cream," and spent hours decorating them with sparkling sequins, tiny beads, and dainty details. Sitting around the table together—laughing, sipping Ashley's strong-brewed coffee, listening to classic holiday music, and crafting with my favorite women—was an absolute blast and such a blessing for my heart. There is truly nothing better than homemade holiday magic, especially when shared with the people you love most.
Quick Tips for Hosting Your Own "Christmas in July" Craft Day:
Set the Atmosphere: You don't need cold weather to feel festive! Turn on an ambient fireplace video or play classic vintage holiday tunes to set the mood indoors.
Pick a Simple Craft: Hand-stitching felt ornaments, making coquette bows for the tree, or painting salt dough holiday shapes are all low-stress crafts that allow for plenty of chatting while you make them.
Festive Flavors: Grab a box of sugar cookie dough, bake a batch of gingerbread cookies, or whip up a peppermint iced coffee to bring those cozy December flavors into mid-summer.
Now that my felt mug ornament is ready to hang on the tree come December, I am feeling so refreshed, inspired, and grateful for these sweet mid-summer traditions.
