January doesn’t wait for you to have it all together. I learned that the hard way this week. Between two out of my three kids being sick and our family schedules being tossed out the window, there were a few moments where I almost convinced myself it was pointless to try and "design" a year. Almost.
When the car breaks down or the kids wake up with a fever, the "Grand Plan" suddenly feels like a fairy tale. But here is what I know for sure: things that were made to last weren't built in a day. If your progress this month looks like a couple of baby steps in the right direction rather than a giant leap, that’s okay. The point is that you are covering ground, even when there are still miles to go. We aren't looking for a perfect streak; we are looking for a resilient dedication to a consistent direction.
Life is going to happen regardless of whether we are ready for it. This week, we faced a classic "design pivot" having to buy a new car when the plan was to save for a home. It’s disappointing. It’s frustrating. It's a setback we didn't think would happen. But it's exactly why we do this work. Design Your Year isn't about creating a rigid plan that breaks the moment life gets messy; it’s about building a system flexible enough to handle the detour.
As we move into Week Three, we are shifting our focus from the "Big Seasons" to the Daily Seconds. We are going to consider all the possible pit stops and obstacles life throws our way. The challenge for next week is: How do we keep the momentum going when everyday life gets hard, uncomfortable, and downright disappointing?
We’ll be diving into:
The Ideal Week Blueprint: Creating a structure that holds you up when life gets heavy.
The "Stop Doing" List: Choosing what to drop so you don't drop everything.
The Environmental Audit: Setting your physical space up to support your new rhythms.
If you’ve felt like quitting this week, let this be your sign to keep going. Grab your guidebook, forgive yourself for the "messy" days, and let’s get back to work. I'm so ready to keep covering ground with you, Reader!
